About Montana Lowery

Born in Sunderland, England. Montana first picked up a camera at the early age of eight - this is when she won her first photography award and exhibition in London.

Growing up in a creative home and starting out using her fathers camera, she began her early work taking photos of animals. After graduating college she made the move to Bournemouth, where she naturally felt the transition to fashion photography. A couple of years and a BA Commercial Photography degree later - she embarked on her first trip to New York where she ended up staying for 7 months working with her industry idols at the agency Art Partner.

On her return to the UK she settled in London though still regularly going to fashion week in New York, Paris and Milan.

It is in London where she opened her own studio Stepthirtyone. It was creating this eco-friendly space that Montana's passion for the environment began to move into her work life. Montana calls herself an eco-activist photographer and her work focuses on sustainable fashion for women and children, lifestyle, portraiture and clean beauty.

She is inspired by the beauty of nature and the human part we play in it.

This lead to an exhibition in collaboration with WWF which took place in Carnaby St London to raise awareness about animal extinction and raise money to protect habitats. From here she went on to create a series about the worlds rarest flowers, and then a project which she is waiting to release about trees and soil as a carbon sync which is a project she is running with the Save soil Movement of which she is proudly a volunteer.

Montana also enjoys teaching & speaking about the environment and photography and lectures on the Ba Photography course at the Arts University London as well as written her own mini 6 week course which she recently taught there.
